Rev. Dara Olandt
A life-long UU of Jewish heritage, I bring an unabashed love of our shared religious tradition. I hold a commitment to serving our UU movement with creativity, care, hope. I believe our UU congregations are labs for nourishing human spirituality and caring well for one another. From this wellspring, people derive stamina for complex journeys of living. Bolstered together in spirit, it is possible to make positive collective impact in the larger world.
Over the past years I have served as Chaplain and Director of Spiritual and Religious Life at Mills College in Oakland, and as settled minister of the UU Congregation in Blacksburg, Virginia. I have also worked as an interfaith community organizer. A meditation practice that has sustained me over more than 30 years is one of my central spiritual practices.
I have long known of UUCSR’s thriving ministry. I am delighted to come aboard and minister with you to strengthen the web of care for people of all ages. I am also inspired to help UUism become more accessible to the next generations and those who are often underserved by our liberal religious movement, including young adults, interfaith, multilingual, and multicultural families, people of color, folks who identify as LGBTQIA, and seekers who self-identify as “spiritual but not religious”.
I cherish the idea that “ministry is all we do together.” Let’s explore what is possible when we live our Unitarian Universalism courageously in a beautiful and heart-wrenching world! I look forward to imagining together how to create new kinds of connections, both within and beyond the congregational walls.
I can be found most Sundays at the congregation in worship, and am available most Mondays to meet. Appointments are available throughout the week.
