REFLECT, RELEASE, RENEW
Please join us for the first service of the New Year on Sunday, January 2, 2022. The theme for the month of January is Living with Intention and the service topic is Reflect, Release, Renew. Our Lay Chaplains, who have witnessed, held our hands, and listened well to all our joys and sorrows throughout 2021, will lead us in a contemplative service in which we will pause to reflect on the joys and sorrows of the past year, release that which no longer serves us, and renew our commitment to live with grace, hope, and love in the new year. The service will include readings, meditation, beautiful music, and ritual.

January 16th
Malcolm and Martin: Comparing Malcolm X and MLK most people know Malcolm X as the guy that said "by any means necessary", and MLK as the non-violent one. What if, however, our perceptions of the two men are tainted not by their actual actions and words, but how they made us feel? One we remember as welcoming and talking about love, the other we remember as confrontational and talking about violence. Are our memories correct? Come to church to find out.

Living with Intention: The Power of Daily Choices:
"It is our choices that show us who we truly are, Harry, far more than our abilities." - Albus Dumbledore. Almost every minister has the quintessential Harry Potter sermon up their sleeve, but have you ever heard a Neville Longbottom sermon? Small choices make a big difference, a theme that will be explored through neuroscience, and the Harry Potter Universe.

It’s called the Civil Rights Movement not the Civil Rights Project. The struggle for what is good, and right, and just is always a thing in motion, and sometimes it seems interminable. February 20th, 2022
As the saying goes, hurt people hurt people. This month's theme of Widening the Circle gives opportunity to examine how we hold and recognize the pain of others, and our own pain, in the context of current dominance cultures that typically disregard, ignore or shame such pain. Drawing on wisdom from a masculine path of healing, we will invite and explore the question: what does it mean to live in a culture where our pain matters?Service Leader: Joe GabaeffWorship Associates: Craig Cohen and Sondra Schwartz -UUCSR Linda LampsonMusic: Amanda Nelson with the UUCM Choir and Milton WongMilestones: During the service, there will be an opportunity to put Joys and Sorrows in the chat, and they will be shared with the congregation while a candle is lit.Share the Basket: Saturday breakfast Share with our neighbors -

Two years ago this month, the pandemic sent us all into isolation. Ten months ago, your beloved minister of many years left the congregation very suddenly, under circumstances that were painful. Since then, you have experienced other losses; deaths, staff transitions, and financial challenges. These kinds of experience can be traumatic both to you as individuals and to you as a community. Today Rev. Bonnie Dlott will reflect on the ways that collective trauma can manifest itself in communities, as well as the gifts that trauma offers if we know where where to look for them.

The UUCSR Flower Communion returns! The Flower Communion service was created by Unitarian Norbert Capek in Czechloslovakia in 1923, as a symbolic ritual that would bind people more closely together. He turned to the native beauty of his countryside -- and their bountiful spring flowers -- to create a communion that would be genuine to all comers. It was such a success that it has been held yearly ever since. Let us all gather in genuine communion for a multigenerational service. Please bring a flower (or two) to share!

" Universalism: Past, Present and Powerful"
Universalism has a long and rich history. In contrast, the teaching of eternal damnation is not merely a harmless untruth it also has serious consequences. It leads to the possibility, perhaps even the inevitability, of wars, bigotry, oppression and abuse. On the other hand, the teaching of universalism leads to equality, respect, love and dignity for all.Rev. Kalen Fristad has been a United Methodist minister for more than 40 years, and is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship. He traveled the country full time with his wife, Darlene, from 2003 to 2006, accepting invitations to speak at churches, proclaiming the hopeful message of Universalism. Following then, he served churches in Iowa half time, while spending half time on the road. He retired from the parish ministry in 2013, but continues to travel the country speaking on universalism. This Sunday we begin an exploration of our seven Unitarian Universalist Principles in preparation for a broader congregational discussion about the possibility of adopting an eigth principle. The Principles offer some challenges. There are negatives and positives to each one. The First Principle is a belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person. On the negative side, some of us have become disenchanted with what it means to be human given our many shortcomings. However, the First Principle also tells us we need to look for the good in all people. What does it mean to treat others as beings of inherent worth and dignity, shortcomings and all? Our seventh Principle may be our Unitarian Universalist way of coming to fully embrace something greater than ourselves. The interdependent web—expressed as the spirit of life, the ground of all being, the oneness of all existence, the community-formingpower, the process of life, the creative force, can help us develop that social understanding of ourselves. It is a source of meaning to which we can dedicate our lives. How do you embrace our 7th principle? Service Leader: Rev. "A JOURNEY TOWARDS WHOLENESS:
THE 8TH PRINCIPLE"Our proposed 8th principle states: “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.” This service will explore how understanding this proposed principle can lead us on a journey toward wholeness.

"Courage: A Transformation & The Days of Awe"
In Jewish traditions, the 10 days starting with Rosh Hashanah and ending with Yom Kippur are known as the "Days of Awe" . This period is part of the Jewish High Holidays, a time of profound introspection, repair and action. This morning we'll explore some of the themes and spiritual invitations that are part of this season. How can we take honest stock of our lives? How can we restore deeper relationships to self, other, and the sacred? Rev. Dara Olandt is a UU minister of Jewish heritage and practice. Her writing has been featured in "Jewish Voices in Unitarian Universalism" (Skinner House, 2014). She formerly served as Assistant Minister at UUCSR and is delighted to return as a guest worship leader today.

"What is Another Meaning of Courage? "
Some common synonyms of courage are mettle, resolution, spirit, and tenacity. While all these words mean "mental or moral strength to resist opposition, danger, or hardship," courage implies firmness of mind and will in the face of danger or extreme difficulty.

An Invitation Into the Mystery of Life, Death and the Afterlife. Samhain, All Saint’s Day, All Hallows Eve, Dios de los Muertos. Many cultures recognize that this is the time of the year when the veil between the worlds grows ‘thin” and we can connect with loved ones that have moved on from this life. Today we honor loved ones past. Today we come into the “Thin Place.” Please bring a memento of one of your ancestors, as we build an alter to honor them.Service Leader: Rev Bev SpearsWorship Associates: Linda LampsonMusic: Gage Purdy, Alan Bell, Roger CormanReligious Education: Please email Era if you have a young one wanting to join in the future.Share the Basket: Ceres Community ProjectTo Donate to Share the Basket: Use the GIVE NOW button, on UUCSR's website -

"The Grace to Accept Every Moment as a Gift by Rev. Dan O'Neal"
This archive sermon by Rev. Dan O'Neal reminds us that we can only be fully alive when we embrace the reality of the moment. This means doing what we can to make positive change, and also accepting what we can't change. By facing his own illness with openness and grace, he offers us an example of claiming life through acceptance in even the most difficult circumstances.Service Leader: Ben Ford will read one of Rev. "Making Friends with Change"
If there's one thing that can be counted on in life, it's change. Sages, scientists and philosophers have agreed on this simple fact since time immemorial. "Nothing endures but change", declared Heraclitus back in Ancient Greece. A profound acceptance of this truth -that all things are impermanent - can truly transform the way we live. I invite you to come and try and see change with new eyes by appreciating what it brings to our lives.*Please stay for the Town Hall Meeting after the Service.Service Leader: Rev. "Change as Transition "
Have you ever stopped to consider what a world without change would be like? Without change we would be frozen in time and space. In this way, change opens a world abundant with potential and possibility -- a living moment for which we can be grateful. Many of us may feel that change arouses fear and anxiety. Mindfulness is a tool that can help us to deal with change as a transition. I invite you to come and explore mindfulness in change.Service Leaders: Rev. "Transgender Day of Remembrance "
5:00-6:00pmThis evening, join us for a special, interfaith service in honor of Trans Day of Remembrance. For many trans individuals, their relationship with faith is a complex one, one that often comes with challenges and joys that may not always be apparent, spoken, or heard. For this special service, we are giving space for trans individuals and their family members to share their stories and experience as members of our varied faith communities. After the service, we will process over to Brew where we will join TRANSLIFE, Positive Images, and other local organizations in honoring the memory of the trans folks whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. -

"It's A Wonder "
A few days ago a friend of mine encouraged me to look at John O’Donoghue’s book, To Bless This Space Between Us. I looked through the book and came to the last section which is called, To Retrieve the Lost Art of Blessing. It reminded me that for many of us we have lost the art of blessing, not just as grace before a meal but the art of blessing every aspect of the day and of what we do. Today the phrase, "Each new day is a path of wonder" caught my attention and I have been thinking about the journey that each day takes us on. No day stands still; each one moves through different territory, awakening new beginnings.Service Leader: Rev. Dave ClementsWorship Associate: Richard J. "Imagination: The Gateway to Wonder"
Our imagination is an unmistakable call and adventure into our “can do better” spirit, leading us on a tireless search to further ideas that may make a difference to our individual and shared worlds, not just for ourselves but also for generations that follow. As thinking beings, we carry special hopes, dreams, and expectations. We wonder, examine, and interpret the meaning, interrelationships, and the boundless promise of life. It is our imagination that can be our gateway to wonder.Service Leader: Rev.
